Guess the answer in 20 YES/NO questions — lateral-thinking game
Use YES/NO questions to deduce the answer in 20 rounds or fewer. A variant of lateral-thinking / situation puzzles / Umigame Soup. Single-word answers and short rounds make it accessible from kids to adults — a true classic.
Players ask the GM YES/NO questions (e.g., "Is it red?").
The GM answers YES, NO, or "Unknown" (3 options). Insightful questions can be flagged as "Good Question". Players type questions; the GM types the answer. Use short notation like "Red?" "Over 2m?" to keep the log clean.
Repeat questions until you can guess the answer, then submit. Declare "Answer" and type your guess. Submission counts toward the question count. Submit before the 20-question limit. Players type guesses; the GM types judgment. If "Lies" is on, intentionally wrong submissions are allowed to mislead opponents.
Dokopa offers fine-grained rule customization.
These settings are a good place to start.
All players win if the answer is reached within 20 questions
All players lose if the correct answer doesn't come within 20 questions
Once you're used to it, try more complex answers (e.g., "gorilla's chest")
Adjust the 20-question limit based on skill and difficulty
For 4+ players, team battles are great. Split into A and B teams, alternate questions, and the team that guesses first wins
Solo battle is also great — round-robin questioning, first correct guess wins
